Our penicillin cocktail may not cure any ailments but it is a surefire cure for a chilly evening. With warm, soothing hints of honey and whiskey paired with the tangy flavor of lemon juice, ginger, and lemongrass, this strong yet refreshing citrus cocktail is a must-have this winter.
Penicillin with a Shot of Lemongrass
- 2 oz Honey Whiskey
- 1 oz Lemon Juice
- ½ oz Honey
- ½ oz Ginger-Lemongrass Syrup
- Ice as needed
Combine all of the ingredients in a large cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well to fully combine and chill. Strain into a lowball glass filled with fresh ice. Add a lemongrass stalk for garnish.
Ginger- Lemongrass Simple Syrup
- 3 stalks Lemongrass
- 1 inch Ginger root, peeled
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1 cup Water
Trim the lemon lemongrass stalks down to the stiff white base. Then slice them down the center, stopping a few layers from the bottom so that the stalk splays open but does not separate entirely. Using the flat side of a blade, smash the peeled ginger root a little bit to open it up and release the oils. In a small saucepan set over medium heat, add all of the ingredients and simmer while stirring until the sugar has melted. Turn off the stovetop and remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit for about thirty minutes or until the simple syrup has cooled. Strain the syrup into a glass container and store in the refrigerator. Toss the remaining ginger root and lemongrass stalks. And finally, enjoy the crafted Penicillin cocktail!
